MoMA New York has acquired eight of The New York Times Op-Ed pages designed and art directed by Mirko Ilic created from 1992 to 1993 for their design collection.
“Being the art director of Op-Ed pages, I had the pleasure of working with some of the top writers and illustrators,” Ilic says. “The editorial team, headed by Mike Levitas, supported me in creating some quite unusual pages, which were very unusual for The New York Times at that time in its history and the history of computer production.”
The pages illustrated the creative use of type and typography integrated with or serving as illustration as a means of adding an additional level of expression.
